Safety Surveys
Under the Occupiers Liability Act 1957 and 1984, anyone who owns or manages land with trees has a legal duty to avert foreseeable damage arising from tree failure.
OMC Tree Safety Survey assess whether trees are in a safe condition and recommends tree work to avert any potential of tree failure along with a time frame for the work.
Professional, updated tree surveys satisfy courts that a landowner has fulfilled the duty to avoid foreseeable risk should an event occur that gives rise to legal action.
Other than the most common Tree Safety Surveys (and surveys required for planning, insurance/mortgage, subsidence/foundation design) there are other uses for a general multi purpose survey. Some reasons can be:
- To identify proximity to buildings, roads and services
- To improve the quality of the tree population through appropriate tree work, selective removals and new planting
- To identify zones where roots should not be compromised by vehicle compaction or excavation. Though thankfully rare, tree failure is commonly the consequence of damaging groundworks that render trees unstable.
